Hair Botox vs Keratin Treatment in Marbella: Which One to Choose?

Hair Botox vs Keratin Treatment in Marbella: Which One to Choose?

If you're looking for a Hair Botox or keratin treatment in Marbella, you may be wondering which one is better for your hair.

The honest answer is: it depends on your hair and what you want the treatment to do. Hair Botox and keratin treatments can both make hair smoother, softer and easier to manage, but they are not the same treatment and they don't give exactly the same result.

If your hair feels dry, frizzy, rough or damaged from colouring and heat styling, the right treatment can make a noticeable difference. But choosing between Hair Botox and keratin shouldn't simply be about which one makes hair straighter. After more than 25 years working as a colourist, I always look at the condition of the hair first and then decide what is appropriate.

What Is Hair Botox?

Hair Botox is a deep conditioning and smoothing treatment designed to improve the feel and appearance of the hair. Despite the name, Hair Botox doesn't involve injections or medical Botox. The term is commonly used by salons for intensive hair treatments that combine conditioning, smoothing and repairing ingredients.

Depending on the product used, these treatments may contain ingredients such as proteins, amino acids, vitamins, oils or antioxidants. The aim is generally to improve softness, shine, manageability and the appearance of dry or damaged hair. I particularly consider Hair Botox when the hair needs hydration, softness and improved manageability, rather than a very straight finish. This can be especially useful for clients whose hair has been affected by regular colouring, highlights, balayage, heat styling or environmental factors.

What Is a Keratin Treatment?

A keratin treatment is primarily a smoothing treatment. The exact formula and application process vary between professional keratin systems, but the treatment generally uses a smoothing formulation followed by heat to create a smoother, more manageable finish.

For clients with thick, coarse, frizzy or difficult-to-style hair, keratin can significantly reduce frizz and make everyday styling easier. Some clients want to keep some of their natural movement while making their hair smoother. Others are specifically looking for a much straighter result. That's why I don't believe there is one keratin treatment that is right for everyone. The product, technique and amount of heat need to be appropriate for the individual hair.

Hair Botox vs Keratin: What's the Difference?

The simplest way to think about the difference is this: Hair Botox is generally chosen when the priority is improving the condition, softness and appearance of the hair, while keratin is generally chosen when the priority is smoothing, frizz reduction and easier styling. There can be some overlap, but the desired result is usually different.

1. Hair Botox is more focused on conditioning

If your hair feels dry, brittle, dull or rough, Hair Botox can help improve how the hair feels and looks. It can leave the hair softer, smoother, shinier, more manageable, less frizzy and easier to style. It doesn't necessarily mean completely straight hair, which can be an advantage if you still want some natural movement.

2. Keratin is more focused on smoothing

If your main problem is frizz, volume or spending too much time straightening your hair, a keratin treatment may be more appropriate. Depending on the system and your hair type, the result can range from smoother, more controlled hair to a noticeably straighter finish. The important thing is to discuss the result you actually want before choosing the treatment.

3. Which treatment lasts longer?

There isn't one exact answer because longevity depends on the product, your hair, how often you wash it and the products you use at home. Hair Botox results can commonly last around 2-4 months, while keratin smoothing results can also last for several months. Your aftercare makes a significant difference.

4. Which is better for coloured or damaged hair?

This is where I would always recommend a consultation rather than choosing based only on the name of the treatment. Coloured and highlighted hair can sometimes benefit from an intensive conditioning treatment, but the condition of the hair is more important than whether it has been coloured. If the hair is already fragile, heavily lightened or breaking, applying a strong smoothing process without assessing it first isn't something I would recommend.

Hair Botox or Keratin for Fine Hair?

Fine hair needs particular attention. If your hair is fine, you may not want a treatment that makes it feel heavy or removes too much of its natural movement. Hair Botox may be worth considering if your main concern is dryness, frizz or lack of softness. Keratin may also be suitable in some cases, but the exact product and technique matter. For fine or fragile hair, I prefer to assess the hair in person before recommending either treatment.

Hair Botox or Keratin for Thick, Frizzy Hair?

If you have thick, coarse or very frizzy hair and spend a lot of time blow-drying or straightening it, keratin may be more appropriate if your goal is significant smoothing. If you want to reduce frizz while keeping more movement and improving the overall feel of the hair, Hair Botox may be a better direction.

The important question isn't simply "Which treatment is better?" It's: "What do you want your hair to look and feel like afterwards?"

Can You Have Hair Botox If Your Hair Is Coloured?

In many cases, yes. Hair that has been coloured, highlighted or balayaged may be suitable for Hair Botox, but every head of hair is different. As a colourist, I always pay particular attention to chemically treated hair because the condition of the hair can vary significantly even when two clients have the same colour. If your hair has been recently bleached or is showing signs of breakage, it may be better to adjust the treatment or wait.

Can You Have Keratin If Your Hair Is Coloured?

Again, it depends on the condition of the hair and the specific keratin system being used. If you regularly have highlights or colour, tell your stylist before the treatment. The timing of colour and smoothing treatments can matter, and the correct approach depends on your hair and the products involved. There isn't a universal rule that applies to every keratin treatment.

Which Treatment Would I Recommend?

This is where my approach is slightly different. I don't want to look at your hair and simply sell you the treatment you asked for. If you come to The Lounge Marbella asking for Hair Botox, but I think your hair would respond better to another treatment, or that you shouldn't have a smoothing treatment at all, I will tell you. After more than 25 years as a colourist, I know that the condition of the hair has to come before the treatment.

For dry, porous or damaged hair, Hair Botox may be worth considering if the main goal is improved softness, shine and manageability. For thick, coarse and very frizzy hair, keratin may be more suitable if the main goal is significant smoothing and easier styling. For fine or fragile hair, a consultation is particularly important before choosing either treatment. And for coloured or highlighted hair, the current condition of the hair matters more than simply whether it has been coloured.

Hair Botox vs Keratin Treatment in Marbella

If you're visiting Marbella or living on the Costa del Sol, your hair is also exposed to factors such as strong sun, heat, humidity and, for many people, regular swimming. That can make frizz, dryness and loss of shine more noticeable.

Rather than choosing a treatment from a menu, I recommend looking at the condition of your hair and deciding what result you actually want. At The Lounge Marbella, treatments are priced after consultation because the amount of product, time required and treatment approach can vary depending on the length, thickness and condition of your hair. Frequently Asked Questions

Is Hair Botox better than keratin? Neither treatment is automatically better. They are designed with different goals in mind. Hair Botox is generally more focused on conditioning, softness and improving the appearance of the hair, while keratin treatments are generally chosen for smoothing and frizz reduction.

Does Hair Botox straighten hair? Hair Botox can make hair smoother and easier to manage, and some formulations can reduce volume and frizz. However, it isn't necessarily intended to produce the same straightening effect as a keratin treatment.

How long does Hair Botox last? Results commonly last around 2-4 months, although this varies depending on the treatment used, your hair and your aftercare routine.

How long does a keratin treatment last? A keratin smoothing treatment can last for several months, but longevity varies according to the product, hair type, washing frequency and aftercare.

Can I have Hair Botox on highlighted hair? Often yes, but the condition of the highlighted hair should be assessed first. Very porous or fragile hair may require a different approach.

Can I colour my hair after keratin? The appropriate timing depends on the keratin system and the colour service. Rather than following a universal two-week rule, ask your stylist when it is appropriate for the specific products used on your hair.

You don't need to know whether you need Hair Botox or keratin before contacting me. Send me a clear photo of your hair on WhatsApp and tell me what you would like to change about your hair. I'll take a look and let you know which treatment I would consider for your hair and why.
